Internet worldwide Vs Nepal

Internet
As mentioned in UN 2011, the internet is a human right. In today’s world internet is considered equally essential as education and health. The right to internet access is also known as freedom to connect which describes every individual has right to access the content which is broadly available. In other words, internet access should not be unreasonably restricted. As the concept of IOT is growing the necessity of internet will increase by times as it is today. This impact has raised the voice of free internet, which is also being raised by many forums and groups. In 2012 internet society conducted online interviews of more than 10k internet users in 20 different countries and almost 85% of them responded strongly agreeing for free internet access.

Free Access to Internet

Many countries started free internet practice along with Nepal. Estonia offers free wifi  on almost every part of the country but lies in the second position on the scale of the speed of the internet. Lithuania is on top of this category. Most of the countries like UK, France, Switzerland and so on provides free hotspot or wifi in tourist and public areas.

Privacy and Data Protection

Internet UN resolution 2016 affirms "the same rights that people have offline must also be protected online". The resolution was opposed by a group of countries including Russia, China. Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, India and South Africa. In Nepal, privacy and data protection also occupies space in internet governance but it seems that public is not aware enough. As government display information of all the information of an individual in their site and the website are also not secured enough from the hackers we can say that privacy and data protection are not in practice in Nepal. In the same context, the neighboring country China is very concerned with the privacy and data protection. Not only, there are very strict rules and regulation for privacy concern but also strict punishment exist.

Diversity Promotion

Nepal has good practice for diversity promotion. Through social media, websites, blogs, and many more people are spreading the knowledge about the cultural and linguistic diversities. These activities are encouraging foreigners to visit Nepal. Mentioning other countries they also do promote diversity but below the line.

Internet censorship

The Internet is a space for the promotion, protection, and fulfillment of human rights and the advancement of social justice. Everyone has right to talk and share this own ideas and opinion through the internet without interfering one’s right. This restriction is known as internet censorship. It seems that this right is restricted in Nepal on a political basis. Someone was caught up for sharing his opinion on a political issue. Most internet censored countries are North Korea, Burma, Saudi Arabia and much more which prohibit right to share political issues of the country through the internet. Iceland is ranked first with the most Internet freedom.
